Description:

Functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or a Unit Manager to meet residents' care needs.

Responsibilities:

The LPN oversees the work of CCAs and demonstrates leadership and guidance in response to their concerns and recommendations regarding the care residents receive while creating a home like welcoming environment for residents. The LPN is responsible to communicate with the RN, Physician and other service providers and family with respect to the care needs of residents. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining and upgrading their knowledge to ensure therapeutic care is provided to residents adhering to therapeutic standards and achieving the goals identified in care plans of residents. The LPN is responsible to ensure the policies of the facility are adhered to including the documentation of actions, irregularities and ongoing needs of residents. This position requires a person who is a team player who is willing to assist where and how needed to ensure the quality of care residents receive. This position does require shift work.

Qualifications:

-Current registration with the College licensed Practical Nurses of Nova Scotia -Recognized Pharmacology Course and experience in the administration of medications -LPNs will work within the CLPNNS Scope of Practice -Possesses exemplary Customer Service skills -Reliable with good attendance and cheerful disposition -Demonstrate the use of proper body mechanics -Able to work 8-hr shifts (days, evenings, nights) -Maintenance of a clean and sanitary environment -Effective communication both written and verbal in English with residents, families and co-workers -Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy in all aspects of the organization -Must take initiative and able to work with minimum supervision -Respectful and hardworking team player -Police check and Vulnerable Sector Screening Request in the last 3 months is required

COMPETENCIES

- Standard First Aid or Basic Life Support- CPR/Choking Adult -Successful completion of LPN course -Experience in a long term care or similar environment is considered an asset -Alzheimer's Disease Course preferred

As per the NSNU Collective Agreement
