LTC Proud Day- why this special day 

The second Thursday of June is #LTC Proud Day annually in Nova Scotia. This year this falls on June 13 and our theme is A Special  Calling.  It is a day to celebrate those working in long term care and to thank them for making this vital sector their chosen career. In fact, LTC is more than a career- it is truly a calling because that is what it means to work in LTC. It is a day to officially celebrate the expertise, dedication, meaningful relationships, moments of joy, affection and care delivered by staff every day in nursing homes throughout this province.

Those leading this critical sector on the front lines and in management roles offer expertise, compassion, leadership, diligence and strategic innovation. During these past several years, our sector has handled not only a pandemic but also major weather events such as hurricanes, wild fires, floods, critical evacuations, massive snow storms and continuing staff shortages. Add to these current or fast approaching new builds as well as  ongoing recruitment and retention concerns. We are grateful to all for their devotion, resilience and commitment.   The spotlight is on long  term and this is exactly where it needs to be. Our residents and their caregivers deserve nothing less. These teams and their leaders  have demonstrated incredible strength, compassion, ingenuity, and vigilance to ensure the best care possible is delivered to those they have the privilege to serve.

We value the collective will being demonstrated for change and the strong partnerships with both the private sector and all orders of government. After decades of underfunding and lack of investments, transformation and reimagining LTC is in progress. Respectful collaborations and unity will lead to continued growth and transformation.
